Lakehurst Water & Sanitation District
2010 Summer Water Use Program
As a distributor of Denver Water and to abide by our supply contract with Denver, the Lakehurst Board of Directors has adopted the following “guidelines” for its 2010 Summer Water Use Program, effective from May 1 to October 1, 2010. These recommendations focus on wise water use while discouraging water waste.
Listed below are valuable tips to help customers continue their wise water use habits and avoid wasting a valuable resource. The 2010 rules are the same as in 2009.
- Water, but don’t over water. Customers are directed to water lawns, if needed, no more than three days per week.
- If you have an automatic sprinkler system, set it but don’t forget it. Change its programming to suit the typical needs of each month.
- Turn your sprinkler system off when it rains.
- Make repairs to system in a timely manner.
- No watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Definitions of water waste:
- Applying more water than is reasonably necessary to establish and maintain a healthy landscape.
- Watering with spray irrigation between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. during the period from May 1 to October 1.
- Watering landscaped areas during rain or high wind.
- Applying water intended for irrigation to an impervious surface, such as a street, parking lot, alley, sidewalk or driveway.
- Allowing water to pool or flow across the ground or into any drainage way, such as gutters, streets, alleys or storm drains.
- Failing to repair, for a period of more than ten days after notice, leaking or damaged irrigation components.
Note: Penalties for water waste are always in effect. The first violation gets a warning; the second costs $50, the third costs $100, and continued violations may result in suspension of service.
